Code group merger completed.
The merger of the country's three model building code groups into the International Code Council (ICC) became official on Feb.1. The consolidation was set in motion by the establishment in 1994 of the International Code Council, with the goal of developing a single set of model construction codes.
Services, products, and staff operations of the Building Officials & Code Administrators International, International Conference of Building Officials, and Southern Building Code Congress International will be consolidated over the next few months, according to CEO Bob Heinrich, who previously headed the International Conference of Building Officials and will continue to be based in ICC's Whittier, Calif., office. ICC's headquarters will remain in Falls Church, Va. ICC also will continue to maintain offices in Birmingham, Ala., and Country Club Hills, Ill.
