Madison, Wis.-based developer Alexander Company has completed the first phase of its $110 million Capitol West development—one of the largest private housing efforts in the history of downtown Madison. The 164 condos at Capitol West are comprised of an 11-story tower, row houses, lofts, and townhomes, providing a variety of housing styles that embrace the surrounding neighborhood with public walkways and bike paths.

As part of the project, the Building Team utilized the concrete shell of a former medical clinic for the 309 West Washington condo building. The team updated the historic structure with expansive glass windows, balconies, terraces, and cantilevered decks and bays. In addition to the various condominium designs, the mixed-use site features 92,500 sf of commercial space and, by late 2009, a 151-room hotel.
