1.5 AIA Learning Units and HSW Credit

Education facilities, both K-12 schools and college and university buildings, are among the most active sectors in green building. This webcast will provide an overview and case studies of how school districts and institutions of higher learning are greening their buildings and campuses.
Our green schools segment will focus on Rosa Parks Elementary School, a LEED Gold K-6 school in Portland, Ore., designed by Katrina Shum Miller, Assoc AIA, LEED AP, and a member of the New Zealand Institute of Architects; she is a principal with Portland design firm Green Building Services. Our featured high school will be Bolingbrook (Ill.) H.S., designed by Brad Paulsen, VP of the K-12 Education Practice at Wight & Co., Darien, Ill. This project was one of the first LEED-certified high schools in the country.
For our higher education segment, our expert panel will consist of Michael Mandl, EVP of Finance and Administration at Emory University, Atlanta, who will discuss how greening the campus has benefited Emory’s bottom line; Tammie Clemons, Sustainability Coordinator at Berea (Ky.) College, a four-year liberal arts college with an extensive sustainability program; and Larry Eisenberg, Executive Director for Facilities Planning and Development for the Los Angeles Community College District, which is currently undertaking the largest public-sector green building program in the U.S., funded by a $2.2 billion bond program.
