Georgia Perimeter College, a metro Atlanta multi-campus, two-year college, opened the doors to a new 100-acre campus in Covington with its first building: a 104,000-sf, all-in-one campus facility. Construction on a second student service-focused building began in December, and school officials anticipate it will be ready for classes at the start of spring semester 2009.

The first building is designed to be flexible so that some of the functions of the all-in-one campus can move as more buildings are added. The three-story facility houses 35 high-tech classrooms; 10 computer classrooms; six teaching laboratories for biology, chemistry, and physical sciences; a library; tutoring lab; testing center; one-stop area with an academic advising center, an enrollment and registration center, a financial aid office, and student accounts; faculty and staff offices; bookstore; and an area for student government and student life activities. In addition, the main level of the tower atrium offers a foodservices area, and the upper levels contain a variety of spaces where students can study, eat, and socialize.

The Building Team for the facility includes Lord, Aeck & Sargent, lead architect; Architecture Group, associate architect; and KSi/Structural Engineers—all based in Atlanta. Potts General Contractors, Conyers, Ga., was CM.
