Harley Ellis Devereaux, a national architecture and engineering design firm, announced the promotion of Gary L. Skog, FAIA, to Chief Executive Officer. He takes over that leadership role from Dennis M. King, FAIA, who served as CEO since 1991. King will continue as Chairman of the Board and as Interim Managing Principal for the Detroit office. The firm also announced additional leadership transitions: Enrique Suarez, AIA, has been promoted to Managing Principal of the firm's Chicago office, and the retirements of John H. Nelson, FAIA, and James W. Page, PE, past Managing Principals of the firm's Chicago and Detroit offices respectively. J. Peter Devereaux, FAIA, will continue as President and Managing Principal of the firm's Los Angeles, San Diego, and Berkeley offices.
As CEO, Gary Skog will direct the firm's vision and mission. He joined Harley Ellis Devereaux in 1981 and assumed many pivotal roles, including Director of Design, Science & Technology Studio Leader, Chief Architecture and Design Officer, and Chief Marketing Officer.
Skog has always taken an active role in the design profession. He has been involved with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) for over 25 years. He is a Past President of both AIA Detroit and AIA Michigan, received his AIA Fellowship in 1998, and the AIA Michigan Gold Medal in 2008. He currently serves as AIA Michigan's Finance Committee Chair and is an Associated General Contractors of Michigan Board Member. He holds Bachelor and Master of Architecture Degrees from The University of Michigan.
