Garlock Training Program Goes Green

Garlock Training Program Goes Green

August 11, 2010

Garlock Sealing Technologies, a global leader in high-performance fluid sealing products, has retooled its training programs to focus on environmental issues.

"We have refocused these training programs to emphasize the importance of sealing devices in meeting increasingly stringent environmental regulations and delivering improved operational efficiencies across a broad spectrum of industries," said Matt Tones, Garlock's manager of applications engineering and training.

Garlock’s products include compression packing, gasketing, hydraulic components, dynamic seals, metal gaskets, high-performance metal seals and critical-service flange gaskets, as well as expansion joints. The company has 15 global operations and a distributor network that covers 75 countries. Its 12 manufacturing facilities in the U.S., Europe, Asia and Latin America collectively produce the broadest range of fluid sealing products designed specifically for industrial applications.

In response to increased demand for varying levels of training, Garlock Sealing Technologies now offers customized, modular courses for authorized distributors, end-users and engineering firms.

The company's training programs range from providing a basic understanding of its various products to more in-depth "Science of Sealing" courses focusing on the proper selection and installation of sealing devices, as well as hands-on kiosks that are industry- and equipment-specific.

Among the enhancements to its training programs are a number of new engineering resources, including the Gasketing Tool CD, which contains detailed engineering data and electronic tools for calculating area, stress and torque values.

Garlock also offers industry-specific training modules for its key market segments, such as pulp and paper, chemical processing, hydrocarbon processing, power generation and wastewater treatment. These modules are designed to optimize customer knowledge of sealing solutions for various applications and how they should be used.

To accommodate customers' needs, training is offered at the company's headquarters in Palmyra, N.Y., as well as on-site at the customer's location. Duration of the programs ranges from one-hour "lunch-and-learns" up to five days, depending on format and desired level of training.
