Environmental Systems Design totals 52 LEED APs

August 11, 2010

Environmental Systems Design (ESD), an international leader in sustainable design of the built environment, announced today that its staff now has a total of 52 engineers who have achieved LEED Accredited Professional status.

LEED Accredited Professionals are certified under the U. S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. They are experienced building industry practitioners who have demonstrated their knowledge of integrated design and their capacity to facilitate the LEED certification process on the LEED Professional Accreditation exam. The exam tests an individual’s understanding of green building practices and principles, and familiarity with LEED requirements, resources, and processes. The accreditation program recognizes expertise in green building and LEED to help meet the growing demand from the public and private sectors for green buildings.

“ESD has played a leading role in developing and applying solutions to create buildings that use less energy, deplete fewer natural resources, generate less waste and provide a healthy indoor environment for occupants,” commented Raj Gupta, P.E., LEED AP, President of ESD. “A key component of that effort is to expand the expertise of our engineers by having them fulfill the LEED accreditation process.”

ESD has embraced the U.S. Green Building Council LEED rating system along with life cycle, cradle-to-cradle and carbon-neutral based strategies for designing and measuring sustainability. The firm has designed high performance systems for over 20 million square feet of space that has achieved LEED status. Its completed projects demonstrate its ability to deploy new or unconventional technologies to further its clients sustainable goals, including solutions in such areas as energy recovery and optimization, grey water recycling, wind and solar power, rooftop gardens, geothermal, and daylight harvesting.

To ensure that every project is approached with an eye toward sustainable design, ESD has created groups of consultants specifically dedicated to the application of green concepts. Its Building Sciences Group, which gets involved with every major design effort, specializes in envelope optimization, energy and CFD modeling, solar modeling and conversion strategies and alternate power generation. A fully certified Commissioning Group with technology integration specialists provides expertise on high performance system optimization in new and existing buildings.

“Our dedication to sustainability can be found on every project we undertake, whether it involves design of systems for a new building, or retro-commissioning to optimize existing building systems,” Mr. Gupta said. “It is at the heart of our business philosophy and truly drives our performance on a daily basis.”

Founded in 1967, Environmental Systems Design has provided design solutions on hundreds of buildings in the United States and on major projects throughout the world. The firm offers consulting engineering services in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, LEED, sustainable design, commissioning, and technology. ESD supports a diverse range of markets, including commercial, health and science, education, mission critical, residential, assembly, cultural, theaters, energy plants and transportation. Its clients include architects, developers, property managers and Fortune 1000 companies with whom it works to restore the buildings of the past and create new buildings of tomorrow.
