Cost of HVAC equipment to remain flat in 2009, says Turner Logistics

August 11, 2010

While some manufacturers have announced slight increases in facilities equipment pricing for 2009, the average cost of equipment is expected to remain flat in 2009, according to the 2009 Turner Logistics Equipment Cost Index. However, equipment pricing could face increased pressure if there is a further decline in market demand.

Published by Turner Logistics, the facility equipment solutions arm of Turner Construction, the report tracks the average cost and lead time for common facilities equipment, including chillers, generators, cooling towers, and air-handling units.

Turner anticipates that lead times will continue to improve. Signs of production consolidation have been noted as manufacturers adjust workforce and production capacity.

2009 estimated equipment lead times (varies due to equipment sizing)
Cooling towers: 6-10 weeks
Chillers: 12-20 weeks
Air-handling units: 10-18 weeks
Generators: 8-30 weeks
Medium voltage switchgear: 12-18 weeks
Uninterruptible power supply: 18-22 weeks
