Cooperation Between WisDOT And University Benefits All

Cooperation Between WisDOT And University Benefits All

By By Mike Larson | August 11, 2010

The lead feature in this edition of WesternBuilder covers the construction of the first precast segmental bridge abutment ever used on a highway in Wisconsin.

This is WisDOT’s first use of the technique. It resulted from an excellent partnership between WisDOT and the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s engineering department.

This kind of cooperation between WisDOT and the research resources of the state’s universities leads to better methods that benefit contractors and taxpayers alike.

If this first abutment works the way it’s expected to, the technique could offer Wisconsin contractors a time-saving option for building bridges.
