L ord, Aeck & Sargent, Atlanta, in collaboration with Michael Keeshen and Associates, Greenville, S.C., is designing the 27,000-sf, three-story Sonoco Institute of Packaging Science & Graphics on the campus of Clemson (S.C.) University. The project will house various production laboratories related to material science, graphic communications, and prototyping, and will be a showcase for students' design work. The $5.8 million facility will also be green, with an optimized daylighting and solar control design, water-efficient fixtures, and low-emitting building finishes. The design team is targeting LEED Silver certification for the facility, which will include faculty offices, “smart” classrooms, and CAD and collaboration studios.
