Starbucks goes green, and not just for tea

LEDs light up shared arts center at the University of Illinois
February 1, 2010The Krannert Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, has been retrofitted with almost 600 LED lighting fixtures from Renaissance Lighting. WattStopper contributes freezer case occupancy sensor to DOE study
Jeffrey Yoders, December 22, 2009WattStopper has participated in a ground-breaking demonstration of solid-state lighting (SSL) technology combined with occupancy sensors in grocery store freezer cases. The project was supported under the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Solid-State Lighting GATEWAY Technology Demonstration Program. New data shows low construction prices may soon be coming to an end
Jeffrey Yoders, December 21, 2009New federal data released recently shows sharp increases in the prices of key construction materials like diesel, copper and brass mill shapes likely foreshadow future increases in construction costs, the Associated General Contractors of America said. The new November producer price index (PPI) report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics provide the strongest indication yet that construction prices are heading up, the association noted. More -
LED retrofit nets energy savings
December 1, 2009Limited Brands, Inc. has deployed energy-efficient lighting from GE for a comprehensive lighting retrofit of five distribution centers at its headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. Within the 3.5 million sf of impacted facilities, the company's lighting energy consumption has been cut by 50%. Limited Brands expects annualized energy and maintenance cost savings of approximately $775,000. More -

December 1, 2009The new $151 million Jumer's Casino & Hotel in Rock Island, Ill., lights up in color, in broad daylight as well as at night. The property features 57,083 sf of Alucobond aluminum composite material panels, including 36,580 sf in Spectra Cupral color and 20,503 sf in a custom Texas Copper color. 650 Wal-Mart stores to be retrofitted with LEDs
December 1, 2009Wal-Mart plans to install Cree LRP-38 LED light bulbs in 650 stores during 2010. Designed to last 50,000 hours, the LRP-38s consume 82% less energy than the 70-watt ceramic metal halide bulbs they are replacing and can last more than five years in a 24/7 operating environment. The design of the LRP-38 also reduces glare for customers, focusing attention on the merchandise and not the lighting. More -
Building controls help green Louisville campus
December 1, 2009The University of Louisville is moving to achieve a more sustainable future for its Belknap Campus with the help of a $21.7 million energy and resource efficiency improvement project delivered by the Building Technologies Division of Siemens.
