Boston reaching for solutions to threat of rising sea levels on waterfront development

Developers are already boosting resiliency on new projects.

August 08, 2013 |

While Boston officials consider whether to enact new building codes to resist flooding stemming from climate change-induced rising sea levels, developers are already boosting resiliency on new projects.

“We can’t allow ourselves to look the other way and end up in the same situation as lower Manhattan after Sandy,” says real estate developer Donald Chiofaro Jr. City officials do not yet know whether regulatory changes will be necessary to mandate renovations to homes and commercial properties, or whether government assistance will be offered to help pay for the improvements.
