Fire rated glass takes a big bite at the Big Apple

Bill O'Keeffe | June 12, 2018

Every year, our company looks forward to participating in the AIA National Convention for many reasons: to show our latest products and see other innovations coming up; to network and engage with the architectural community; to listen and learn from top-notch speakers; and to experience and explore the host city.  Indeed, it is for these reasons and more that SAFTI FIRST has been constant exhibitor and supporter of the AIA Expo for over 30 years.

This year, the convention takes us to New York City – and we couldn’t be more excited!  It was here that 13 architects gathered to form the American Institute of Architects in 1857, and where the first-ever AIA National Convention was held 10 years after its founding (source: AIA NY).  With its world-famous buildings, bridges and parks, no discussion of iconic cities, skylines or architecture is ever complete without including New York City.

For this year, we have decided to step it up by debuting our professionally-produced company video at our booth 1021. The short video gives an inside look at our operations and communicates the benefits of partnering with the only single-source, vertically integrated, USA-manufacturer of advanced fire rated glass and framing systems.  You can also view the video here if you’d like!

Our team of experts will be at our booth 1021 to answer all your questions and guide you through our comprehensive product line.  This includes 2 of our latest products:  the patented GPX FireFloor System and Clear, Butt-Glazed Fire Resistive walls with SuperLite II-XLM 120.  Both fire rated glazing systems are listed and labeled by UL and Intertek up to 2 hours and provide maximum vision, transparency and safety to fire resistive floor and wall applications.  Stop by and say hello!

On the education side, we are also delivering our AIA-registered presentation “Designing with Fire Rated Glass” (1 AIA LU/HSW) on Friday, July 22, 12:30 pm at CE Theater D (booth 4178).  This 1-hour session goes through the intricacies and nuances of the code in order to help designers specify the correct, code-approved product based on the application.  It also showcases the creative ways to design with fire rated glass in a variety of applications, including specialized locations like curtain walls, floors, atriums, and stairwells.  Right now, this session is sold out at the show, but if you would to take it and receive 1 AIA LU/HSW, you can register here for our on-demand program available 24/7.

Last but definitely not the least, we are hosting a sunset cruise along New York harbor on Friday, June 22.  What better way to see the iconic New York skyline than aboard the Hornblower Hybrid.  From 6:00 to 9:30 pm, there will be a hosted bar, passed hors-d'oeuvres, food stations, live music and a photo booth. The event filled up quickly, but we still have a few spots available.  If you are in town for the AIA National Convention and interested in the cruise, please contact Diana San Diego directly at dianas@safti.com

We hope that you are just as excited about architecture’s premier event.  We look forward to seeing you in the Big Apple!

Demand for advanced, USA-made fire rated glazing “RAISES THE ROOF”

With architects specifying full-vision, code-compliant, 60 and 90 minute, temperature rise doors for exit stairwells and other code required applications, we found this as an opportunity to expand our product offerings.
