ACHA-AAH hospital designers: Cut costs, use BIM and IPD

At the AIA Summer Leadership Summit in Chicago last Saturday (July 25), I warned 170 of the nation’s top healthcare designers that they will be under severe pressure from the federal government to trim costs in hospital construction. Specifically, I advised architecture firms to use building information modeling (BIM) tools and integrated project delivery (IPD) to control costs.
The 3-day conference was sponsored by the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health and the American College of Healthcare Architects, the two groups that represent the A/E firms that do 80-90% of the major hospital projects in the U.S. and Canada.
