The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) announces the publication of ANSI/BHMA A156.36 - 2010 American National Standard for Auxiliary Locks.
This standard establishes requirements for auxiliary locks including commercial and residential deadbolts and includes dimensional criteria and five classifications of tests: operational, cycle, strength, security and finishes. This standard was formerly part of ANSI/BHMA A.156.5 for Auxiliary Locks and Associated Products.
Changes to the proposed edition of A156.36-2010 are:
- New standard resulting from dedicating A156.5 to cylinders, and moving auxiliary locks to their own standard.
- Revised lock/cylinder interface tests 12.4 through 12.7 and developed corresponding test fixtures based on revising A156.5 to fully evaluate cylinders.
- ·The test equipment section was laid out to be consistent with other standards.
- Warped door test wording was revised to be consistent with the latest standards.
- ·Replaced the torque/keybow equation with a torque limit of 33 lbs-in. for all key bows, similarly for turns. Appendix note was added to explain logic for change.
- Corrected ASTM F476 references throughout.
- Updated reference standards and test applicability chart.
- Updated UV test criteria.
- Created suffix D for use with drill resistant cylinders.
