Battersea power station to be reborn in London

Real Estate Opportunities Limited, a London-based property company, has launched its vision and master plan for Battersea Power Station. For the first time in a quarter century, the station will be used to generate electricity, but from renewable sources rather than coal. The master plan seeks to regenerate an area of London that will provide approximately 8 million sf of residential, office, and retail space.

There will be a six-acre public park, a riverside walk, and an urban square. Alongside the existing power station, Rafael Viñoly Architects, New York, will design a new building with a 300-meter-high chimney and eco-dome that will reduce carbon emissions on the 38-acre development. Construction is planned to start in 2012 with the development being completed by 2020.
