Sears returns to State Street

With the opening of a five-story, 250,000-sq.-ft. store in downtown Chicago, Sears, Roebuck & Co. again has a retail presence on State Street. Sears closed its former State Street store in 1983, and has closed numerous suburban stores nationwide recently. The building in which the new store is located was designed by Holabird & Roche, and constructed in the early 1900s. Daniel P. Coffey & Associates was architect for the Sears renovation. The company still has executive offices in Sears Tower.
