Ladylike behavior

Because the former Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles was rendered structurally unsafe by the 1994 Northridge earthquake, a new facility is under construction. As the project progresses, exterior scaffolding has been removed from the east wall, exposing a dramatic new 80-by-40-ft. window over the main altar that is visible to drivers on the Hollywood Freeway. During the next few months, general contractor Morley Construction of Santa Monica, Calif., will complete window installation and roofing. This $163 million project is scheduled for completion in January 2002.
