First LEED double-Platinum project completed

Building Design and Construction

                  
LEED Platinum certification for both core and shell (CS) and commercial interiors (CI) has been bestowed on the Christman Building in Lansing, Mich., making it the first “double Platinum” building in the U.S. Green Building Council's green building rating program. Built in 1928 as the Mutual Building, the Christman building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The design by architecture/engineering firm SmithGroup preserved many of the original historic features, including Pewabic-tiled stairways and exterior limestone detailing, while upgrading the interior to a Class A office building. The building is the headquarters for the Christman Company, a construction services firm that served as GC for the renovation.
