Kennesaw State University performance center aims for perfect sound

L oaded with features like cotton velour adjustable curtains, steeply raked seating, operable “tuning” doors, and an efficient rectangular dimension, the recently opened Dr. Bobbie Bailey and Family Performance Center at Kennesaw (Ga.) State University is recognized as one of the premier places in metro Atlanta to hear superior-sounding music. Grammy Award-winning singer Sylvia McNair is among the world-class talent that has performed at the new facility, which was designed by Atlanta-based architect Stevens & Wilkinson Stang & Newdow, with Acoustic Dimensions of New York as the acoustical consultant. The performance center includes a 627-seat concert hall, an orchestra-choir rehearsal room, and an 1,800-sf art gallery.
