San Jose breaks ground on airport terminals

S an Jose International Airport has started construction on its new Terminal B complex and comprehensive upgrades to its Terminal A building as part of the first phase of its terminal improvement program scheduled to finish in mid-2010. The $650 million, 1.25-million-sf design-build project is being led by Fentress Architects, Denver, and Hensel Phelps, Greeley, Colo. Major renovations to Terminal A include security checkpoint expansion, new concession space, additional passenger hold room capacity, and a new baggage system. Construction of Terminal B will provide ticketing, baggage, and security for the airport's new North Concourse, which is nearing completion. The project also includes construction of a 3,400-car consolidated rental car garage adjacent to Terminal B, which will include public parking.
