Dallas firm designs soccer stadium for Liverpool Football Club

T he Liverpool Football Club of England's Premier League recently began construction on its new 60,000-seat stadium in Stanley Park near the team's existing Anfield Stadium. The club's owners are Americans Tom Hicks and George Gillett; the architect is Dallas-based HKS working through its London office.

The new stadium will increase the existing capacity from 45,000 to 60,000 seats, within a design that will endorse Liverpool's status as one of the world's most successful football clubs. The stadium is designed to complement surrounding urban neighborhoods and respond appropriately to the topography and historical context of Stanley Park. The stadium represents an investment of around £400 million (almost $820 million) by the club. Scheduled completion: late 2008.
