Redmond gets a bright and open city hall

T he City of Redmond, Wash., recently celebrated the opening of its new city hall, a 114,000-sf facility that sits on a 17-acre government campus adjacent to the Sammamish River. Developed by Seattle-based Wright Runstad & Co., with MulvannyG2 Architecture, Bellevue, Wash., as architect, the four-story facility consolidates more than 300 municipal employees previously housed in seven offices throughout the city. The LEED Silver-registered facility features abundant low-e clear glass windows that create open and bright workspaces. Outdoor decks connect the offices on all levels to the surrounding picturesque landscape.

A sculpture pool at the entrance of the facility features aluminum stalks of dichroic glass fins that simulate the reeds lining the Sammamish River. The “reeds” reflect an assortment of colors depending on the angle of the sun, creating movement and light around the building.
