Elementary school pays homage to community's strong agricultural roots

Given Lincoln, Calif.'s long history as a farming community, it was only fitting that the design of its new elementary school evoke the community's historic agricultural structures, including fruit sheds and farm buildings. Set on 11.3 acres, the Lincoln Crossing Elementary School is framed in heavy timber and features ranch-style forms, colors, and textures. NTD Architecture, Auburn, Calif., designed the school building, which exceeds California's Title 24 energy requirements by 23%, with the help of daylight harvesting, high-performance HVAC and lighting systems, and an energy-efficient building shell.
