West Georgia Health System breaks ground on tower expansion

Construction work has commenced on a $65 million, 130,000-sf expansion to the south tower on the West Georgia Health System campus in Lagrange, Ga. Designed by Ellerbe Becket's Washington, D.C., healthcare design studio, with St. Louis-based McCarthy Building Cos. as contractor, the four-story facility will include a 24-bed ICU, cardiovascular center, labor/delivery and mother-baby center, and emergency department. It will be designed for vertical expansion and will be able to accommodate up to 192 beds in the future. The south tower will also provide a new “front door” to the medical center, with improved access and parking for patients and visitors. Completion: late 2009.
