The Monsignor Andrew J. McGowan Science Building is a new five-story, 130,000-sf building that will house the chemistry department at DePaul University's Lincoln Park campus. Seeking LEED Silver certification, the project will have several sustainable features, including native landscaping, a green roof, and lab casework built from FSC-certified wood. Architect Antunovich Associates is designing the building to be 15% more efficient than the ASHRAE 90.1-2004 requirements. The team is also tackling the difficult task of designing eco-friendly laboratories and will use variable-volume laboratory air supply and exhaust combined with heat recovery from the lab-exhausted air. Completion is scheduled for January 2009.
