Carmax's home office near Richmond gets LEED Silver

Located on 130 acres of land in Goochland County, just outside of Richmond, Va., the new 250,000-sf headquarters for car-reseller Carmax has earned LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Design by ADD Inc., Cambridge, Mass., the facility includes office space for approximately 900 associates, a cafeteria, dining area, and training and meeting rooms. In addition to the main office building, the site features a fitness center, a multi-purpose basketball court, nearly two miles of walking trails, and a parking garage. Environmental features include the preservation of the trees, wetlands, and natural areas; abundant daylighting throughout the building; and the use of recycled materials. Other Building Team members include: Millennium Retail Partners, Richmond, owner's representative; Brookwood Program Management, Atlanta, construction manager; KBS Inc., Richmond, contractor; AHA Consulting Engineers, Lexington, Mass., MEP and fire protection engineer; and McNamara/Salvia Inc., Boston, structural engineer.
