San Francisco could use green building in Treasure Island development

San Francisco may build a sustainable artificial island city on the existing Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay. Real estate developer Lennar Corporation has proposed building a self-sustaining city on Treasure Island—5,500 housing units in several low-rise buildings, a few high-rise buildings (including a 60-story Treasure Island Tower), restaurants, a ferry terminal, an organic farm, a wind farm, parkland, and tidal marshes. The design calls for independence from car travel, with the ferry terminal and basic goods within a 10-minute walk of residences.
