Sixteen months after Hurricane Katrina caused heavy wind and flood damage to the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in New Orleans, the historic, 14-story hotel has reopened. The comprehensive project involved restoring the building's 96-year-old terra cotta façade, renovating the interior spaces, and replacing outdated and damaged mechanical systems. New York-based Façade Maintenance Design led the façade restoration effort, which included replicating more than 500 pieces of ornamental terra cotta to match the originals and repairing over 1,000 pieces of terra cotta. Other Building Team members include lead architect Pascal Architects and general contractor Gootee Construction, New Orleans.
