LA's date-jumping game forces USGBC to move Greenbuild 2007 to Chicago

Following multiple forced date changes at the hands of the Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau (LA Inc.), officials with the U.S. Green Building Council say they're moving Greenbuild 2007 to Chicago.

The abrupt move was announced on February 12, just days after officials with LA Inc. asked for the show to moved from November 7-9 to some time in December. It was the second date change in recent months.

“In January, we had agreed to a date change from October to November in order to support a business development opportunity for the Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau,” said Peter Templeton, VP of education and research with USGBC, Washington, D.C. “Then, last week, LA Inc. notified us that in order to fulfill our needs we would now need to move to a December date. We felt another date change would be detrimental to Greenbuild and our ability to serve our members and our sponsors.”

In many respects, Chicago is a perfect fit for the Greenbuild show. The city is home to 18 LEED-certified buildings as well as some of the most progressive green building standards in the country, including speedy permitting for green projects and LEED ratings for all new public buildings. Mayor Richard M. Daley has been aggressive with the city's sustainable building and climate initiatives, signing the U.S. Mayor's Climate Protection Agreement and joining the Clinton Climate Initiative.

Greenbuild 2007 will take place November 7-9 at Chicago's McMormick Place West Building.
