HOK Sport+Venue+Event, Kansas City, Mo., unveiled a prototype baseball academy designed for the San Diego Padres. The 15-acre training facility in San Cristobal, the Dominican Republic, has two regulation-size practice fields, batting tunnels, an 18,000-sf players' residence (able to house 60 people), a 5,000-sf manager/coach residence, a 20,000-sf clubhouse, weight training rooms, and a dining hall. The facility, which also offers views of the Caribbean Sea, will utilize native materials and landscaping.
