LEED Gold for Canada's latest water treatment facility

Heat recovery systems, a green roof, and natural ventilation are among the “green” features that helped the Kamloops (B.C.) Centre for Water Quality achieve a LEED Gold rating with the Canada Green Building Council. The facility is one of the largest membrane filtration water treatment plants in North America and the first water treatment plant in Canada to earn a LEED rating. The building is designed to perform 66% more efficiently than a building designed to code. It incorporates low-flow plumbing fixtures, low-VOC materials, and grey water irrigation. Stantec, Edmonton, and Urban Systems, Kamloops, collaborated on the design and engineering of the facility.
