SierraPine’s Medite MDF product line, which also includes Medite 3D, is a non-structural, interior composite wood panel product designed for excellent machinability. The panels’ hard, sharp edges accommodate cutting and drilling; Medite 3D is designed for multilevel machining applications.
Made with 100%-recycled wood fiber, the Medite MDF panels’ smooth surfaces can be finished with paint, varnish, lacquer, UV-fills, laminates, and foils. Medite 3D panels can be painted or laminated.
Medite MDF comes in 4x8-, 4x10-, 5x8-, and 5x10-foot panel sizes and in thicknesses ranging from 5/16 to 11/4 inches. Medite 3D panels are offered in the same sizes, but in thicknesses ranging from ½ to 11/4 inches.
Kendall Wilson, principal with Envision, Washington, D.C., and his design team specified Medite MDF for the 11-story, 84,000-sf Society for Neuroscience headquarters building in Washington, D.C., where the material was installed as decorative millwork. The panels’ designs were first computer modeled to create the 3-D pattern and then fabricated and finished with a white painted surface.
Why Kendall Wilson specifies SierraPine’s Medite MDF:
“We use MDF in most of our projects. I like its monolithic qualities and the fact that it can be easily shaped as we did with a CNC router to make the unique panels at the Society for Neuroscience headquarters.”
“We like Medite MDF because it has no added formaldehyde in its binders and it is made from 100%-recycled wood fiber. It’s also third party-certified [by Scientific Certification Systems and the Composite Panel Association].”
