Murphy/Jahn designs affordable housing on the near north side

Insulated stainless-steel panels and high-performance glass will wrap a concrete-framed structure, providing a low-cost, sustainable solution for the Mercy Housing Lakefront affordable housing development on Chicago’s near north side. The five-story, 46,000-sf building will feature 96 single-occupancy units for low-income individuals. Each unit is about 300 sf, and includes a kitchen and bath. Green features include recycling of shower and lavatory water for re-use as flush water, wind turbines and solar panels on the rooftop, and organic-based paints and stains. Chicago-based Murphy/Jahn is the design architect, with Graef Anhalt Schloemer and Associates as MEP engineer and Linn-Mathes as general contractor.
