KMD Snags Commission to Build South Korea City Hall

San Francisco-based Kaplan McLaughlin Diaz Architects has won the international design and construction competition for Seoul, South Korea's new city hall. The structure, which looks onto Seoul Plaza, is designed to be a visual symbol of the city's pride and growing leadership in the world.

The 21-story, elliptical-shaped glass tower features a unique open form cutting through the center. The glass façade will reflect the city's bustling activity during the day, and the building's glowing night lights will illuminate the surrounding streetscape, creating a beacon to represent the city's civic pride and prosperity.

KMD collaborated with Samoo Architects as the executive architect and Heerim Architects as the architect of record, both based in Seoul. The local construction team includes Samsung Construction & Engineering, SK Construction, and Ssangyong Engineering and Construction.
