Developer Sets Sail on an Entertainment Center in Atlantic City

Greenwich, Conn.-based Gordon Group Holdings has commissioned Elkus Manfredi Architects, Boston, and New York-based Rockwell Group to convert a mall located on Atlantic City's Million Dollar Pier into a luxury retail, dining, and entertainment complex dubbed The Pier at Caesars. Set to open later this year, the development will "open up" the dark, inward-looking mall with extensive use of glass and exterior façade elements that will allow patrons to feel the ocean air, hear the lapping of the water's waves, and see city's sandy beaches.

The building's interior design echoes Atlantic City's outdoor elements. Herringbone wood flooring patterns will mirror the famous Boardwalk, and a pond surrounded by sand dunes, punctuated by waving sea grass blown by concealed fans, will greet visitors at the three-story high entrance.
