Famed Chinese Hotel to Get A Facelift from Award Winner

Minneapolis-based architecture firm Parker Durrant International (PDI) will oversee a $36 million renovation and expansion of the landmark Yellow Dragon Hotel in Hangzhou, China, as winner of an international design competition for the city-owned hotel expansion.

Hangzhou selected PDI's design for its seamless extension of the Yellow Dragon's recognizable architecture, characterized as modern Chinese. The addition of 470,000 sf will almost double the size of the hotel, bringing it to nearly a million sf. Construction is expected to begin in 2006 and be completed in 2008. The hotel will remain open during construction.
