Hospital Campus Planned for Chicago Suburb

A 645,000-sf, $280 million hospital campus is being planned for Elgin, Ill., 40 miles northwest of Chicago. Sherman Health Hospital will replace an existing hospital that will be converted into an outpatient care facility. The new hospital will include an attached medical office building. Construction is anticipated to start in the summer of 2006. Boston-based Shepley Bulfinch Richardson and Abbott is project architect, with Chicago-based Loebl Schlossman and Hackl on the design team. IHC Construction of Elgin is partnering with Barton Malow Co., Southfield, Mich., as construction manager. The project must gain approval from the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board before construction can begin.
