Chicago Biomedical Center Focused on Metastasis Research

The University of Chicago started work on its 330,760-sf, 10-story Center for Biomedical Discovery. Designed by a team from the Los Angeles office of the Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership, the $162.5 million center was engineered to provide open, efficient, and flexible spaces for laboratories and offices. One entire floor of the CBD, about 30,000 gsf, will be devoted to cancer research, with particular emphasis on metastasis, the process by which cancers spread from the original tumor to distant parts.

More than $15 million has already been committed for the facility and the research programs within.
