NASA Prepares for Early Launch of Support Building

Raleigh, N.C.-based Clancy & Theys is nearing completion of a six-story, 190,000-sf operations support building at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla. Late last month, NASA employees started to move into the bottom two floors of the $43.8 million facility, which will replace more than 200 trailers and boxcars that currently serve as support spaces. The upper floors are expected to be completed in mid-August—five months ahead of the scheduled completion date.

Designed by Wolfberg Alvarez & Partners, Coral Gables, Fla., the facility includes offices, conference rooms, classrooms, training areas, a catering kitchen, and an observation deck. Its curved glass exterior can withstand hurricane winds of up to 140 mph and provides NASA employees with a breathtaking view of launch pads A and B.
