Concept designs for the Winspear Opera House (right), designed by London's Foster and Partners, and Wyly Theatre, designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas's Office for Metropolitan Architecture, are giving arts patrons in Dallas something to look forward to. When completed in 2009, the buildings will be part of a five-building $275 million complex comprising the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts. The red-stained drum of the auditorium will serve as the distinctive focal point of the 2,200-seat opera house. The 11-story theater will feature a "stacked," vertically organized design, with non-performance support spaces located either above or below the auditorium.
