Firm announcements

Brad Smith moves up to principal at Taylor & Associates Architects, Newport Beach, Calif. He's a 12-year veteran of the firm.

Joining Kahler Slater Architects, Milwaukee, is Joan M. Whaley as principal in charge of wellness facility planning and design. She was formerly with Kaplan McLaughlin Diaz, San Diego, and Ellerbe Becket, Minneapolis.

Haley & Aldrich, a Boston-based environmental engineering and consulting firm, promoted David J. Hagen and William F. Kay, Jr., to the rank of principal/SVP. The firm has 450 employees in 15 offices nationwide.

Ewing Cole Cherry Brott, the Philadelphia A/E firm, has opened a West Coast office in Irvine, Calif., at 5 Park Plaza. Daniel W. Olson, AIA, has been appointed managing principal.

Chicago's Alter Group has set up Alter Construction Group to handle its construction line, with Ronald M. Clarkson as president.

John W. Cammack, a 30-year construction veteran, steps up to president of Skanska USA's Florida division, where he'll run $500 million in current projects. The Parsippany, N.J., firm has 275 employees in Tampa, Orlando, and Jacksonville.

Joan Saba, AIA, FACHA, an internationally recognized authority on design for health and well-being, has joined NBBJ's New York office as principal to lead the firm's healthcare projects in the Northeast.

Keeton Construction Co., San Diego, has named Philip B. Zubicki as COO. The firm builds office, medical, retail, institutional, industrial, and municipal facilities.

The new president/CEO of Kajima Construction Services, Los Angeles, is Kenji Hara, who has been with the general contractor/design builder for 23 years.

Stephen J. Klempa has been named a principal with Albany, N.Y.-based Thomas Group, an A/E firm that specializes in K-12 and higher education facilities.

Nashville’s Smith Seckman Reid, which designs M/E and fire-protection systems for hospitals and healthcare facilities, has opened an office in Dallas, with VP Kevin Wolfford in charge.
