Needed: Education and facts

I am a structural engineer with 49 years of experience and still going as president and chairman of an 82-year-old firm. I read with interest your editorial in the June issue ("What next for sustainability?").

As I see so often, we seem to be looking for the government or some other regulatory agency to make decisions for us. If sustainable construction is really better and more economical, and I believe it can be in many circumstances, our free-enterprise system will make the right choice. Let's not be going after certifications, regulations, and policies. Education and unbiased facts are what we need.
