Average flat glass prices increased 2.1 percent over the course of 2001, on the heels of 3.1 percent inflation the year before. Although still moderate by most standards, recent price increases in this product group far exceed the average for construction materials and products as a whole. Prior to 2000, average glass prices had actually moved lower for four consecutive years.
However, price pressures were easing over the final third of last year. The price index for flat glass peaked in August 2001.
