Projects awarded





Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart & Associates of Atlanta is architect for 933 Peachtree, a $57 million development consisting of two 21-story apartment buildings in Atlanta's Midtown area. Atlanta-based R.G. Griffin & Co. is general contractor for the project, which will include four floors of parking and 38,000-square feet of retail space. The first phase of the project will be completed this fall.

Davis, Carter, Scott Ltd. of McLean, Va., is architect for Two Washingtonian, a $32 million, mid-rise office tower under construction in Gaithersburg, Md. Bethesda, Md.-based Clark Construction is general contractor for the building, which is fully preleased to Marriott International. Fremont Properties of San Francisco is the owner.

The new 400,000 sq.-ft.-Minneapolis Central Library will be designed by a team led by New Haven, Conn.-based Cesar Pelli & Associates and Architectural Alliance of Minneapolis. Mortenson of Minneapolis will be the general contractor. The library, which is to be completed by 2006, will be financed by a $110 million bond issue approved by Minneapolis voters in November 2000.

Madison, Wis.-based A/E Flad & Associates is architect for a 170,000-sq.-ft. research and development building in Iowa City, Iowa, for ACT Inc., the company best known for producing college entrance exams. McComas-Lacina Construction of Iowa City is the general contractor. Construction is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2003.

Italian-born architect Renzo Piano, with offices in Paris and Genoa, Italy, in collaboration with New York City-based Fox & Fowle Architects is the architect for a 52-story headquarters for the New York Times Co. to be built in the Times Square area. New York City-based AMEC is the construction manager. The Times Co. and Forest City Ratner Companies, an affiliate of Cleveland-based Forest City Enterprises, have formed a joint venture with ING Real Estate to develop the 1.5 million-sq.-ft. building, which is scheduled for occupancy in the summer of 2005. The building will be located on the east side of Eighth Avenue between 40th and 41st streets.
