U.S. Green Building Council proposes two Optimize Energy points for LEED certification
US Green Building Council -- Building Design & Construction, 5/14/2007 3:26:00 PM
In accordance with direction from its Board of Directors and its LEED Steering Committee to immediately increase the LEED Green Building Rating System's impact in reducing building energy related greenhouse gas emissions, USGBC is proposing to update all balloted commercial LEED Green Building Rating Systems with the following change:
All LEED projects are required to achieve two (2) Optimize Energy Performance points. The two point additional requirement goes into effect for all LEED projects registering two weeks after the date of USGBC member approval. LEED for Homes or LEED for Neighborhood Development projects are exempt from this requirement. Pending member approval, this requirement will go into effect June 26th, 2007.
The two mandatory points will count towards the project's LEED certification. Project teams will be reminded of this change at time of registration, through LEED Online, and illustrated in the rating system and reference guide documents.
