  • Mold-free construction, even in a moist climate

    -- Building Design & Construction, 10/1/2007 12:00:00 AM

Moisture, mold, and mildew are big no-nos in any hospital. So, when officials at the Medical University of South Carolina began working on a 641,000-sf addition in hot, humid, and hurricane-prone Charleston, S.C., they knew they needed a gypsum panel that could stand up to the climate's challenges without compromising the health of patients. The team turned to Georgia-Pacific's Paperless Dens Gypsum Board, applying it to interior walls, stair and elevator shaft wall assemblies, and exterior sheathing applications. Paperless Dens substitutes fiberglass mats for the traditional paper sheathing, eliminating a major source of sustenance for mold and helping to make the walls moisture resistant.
