Architectural firms Durrant and SmithGroup selected to design Denver Police Crime Lab

August 11, 2010

PHOENIX, Ariz. (June 24, 2009) — Durrant and SmithGroup have been selected by the City and County of Denver to provide architectural and engineering services for the Denver Police Crime Lab, to be located on the southeast corner of Delaware Street and W. 14th Avenue in Denver.  The programming design phase has recently begun.

The new facility is anticipated to be approximately 60,000 gross square feet with an overall bond project budget of $39 million.  Among other upgrades, the new crime laboratory facility will provide more space for analysis of forensic evidence and crime scene investigation support.  The construction manager at risk or general contractor is expected to be selected in 3Q 2009.

The project procurement will be construction manager at risk.

The Police Crime Lab is being funded as part of the city’s $550 million voter-approved Better Denver bond program, which is working to improve, preserve, renovate and create amenities that touch citizens’ lives — including roads, libraries, parks, recreation centers, child care sites, hospitals, public safety, city buildings and cultural facilities.  To date, over 25 projects have been completed, 50 are in construction, and over 150 more are in planning or design.  The improvements will be completed by 2012, with many of the projects slated for completion by 2011.  For more information, see www.denvergov.org/betterdenver.
