Anshen+Allen LA becomes CO Architects

By Jeff Yoders | August 11, 2010
This article first appeared in the 200508 issue of BD+C.

The Los Angeles office of Anshen+Allen has broken all ties with its namesake company and changed its name to CO Architects. Anshen+Allen, a San-Francisco-based architecture firm founded in 1939, has more than 450 employees, with additional offices in Seattle and London. The firm is particularly well known for its healthcare design work.

The Los Angeles office became an independent corporation in 1995 and used the Anshen+Allen name under a licensing agreement wherein the two companies shared resources and a public relations office. The agreement had a term of 25 years but CO Architects exercised an option to take an early exit.

Anshen+Allen spokeswoman Jenifer Altenhoff called the move a "positive and appropriate decision." Peter Stazicker, senior principal at CO Architects, said, "Our portfolio has become more well-established since then and we felt that now was the time to leave."
